Smoothies, Playlists, Gadgets, Oh My!

I think its safe to say I have caught the running bug again.  I go through phases.  Phases when I am completely obsessed with running, then I start hurting and I have to back off, then I start doing videos and sometimes I get sick of working out all together…..Annoyed  But I have come full circle and found my deep love of running again.  It’s so simple and highly effective.

We have a lovely little running trail in our neighborhood!  I jogged/walked (so out of shape) 3 days last week, as well as today, and I plan on it tomorrow as well!

My old heart rate monitor started acting up so I got a new one!  Nothing like a new gadget to motivate me to workout!

photo 2

Polar FT4

I also made a new playlist.  Music fuels me more than food.

  • Anything Can Happen – Ellie Goulding
  • Blown Away – Carrie Underwood
  • Catch My Breath – Kelly Clarkson (OOOOHHHH Kelly Clarkson!)
  • Hang With Me – Robyn
  • Hello, My Name Is – Matthew West
  • Mirrors – Justin Timberlake ( I can’t stop listening to this!  I am listening to it now as a matter of fact!)
  • Next To Me – Emeli Sande (can’t stop this one either)
  • Sweet Nothing (feat. Florence Welch) – Calvin Harris
  • Times – Tenth Avenue North
  • Wake Up- All Sons and Daughters

I feel so amazing, beautiful, confident, & on top of the world after a good run….Runner’s high maybe?  I wish I could bottle it.

photo 2 (3)

The Smoothie Gods have been kind to me lately as well.  Listen, I have dumped many a concoctions down the sink.  But lately, I am obsessed with this smoothie.  I actually wrote down a recipe as well so I could recreate it!  Mostly I just dump stuff in and pray for the best!  <<<<—— clearly not a good technique.

It’s based on Dashing Dish protein shakes.  It’s her Peanut Butter Maple version that I used as a guide.

photo 3 (2)

This one has……

  • 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese
  • ice (that I didn’t measure, possibly 1 cup of crushed ice?  Follow her number if using cubes)
  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla protein powder
  • handful of spinach
  • 2 tablespoons PB2
  • 1 tablespoon sugar free butterscotch pudding mix
  • 1 tsp. maple extract
  • 1 packet Truvia
  • 3/4 cup light vanilla soy milk ( I usually use unsweetened vanilla almond milk but ran out today Thumbs down)

As a side note:

A while back we found out Trixie has bladder stones and rather than pay $2,000 for surgery, we decided to try and manage them with diet.  She started acting really strange last week but wasn’t presenting any of the symptoms we were told to look out for.  Then one morning (about day 3 of the strange behavior) she came in from using the yard whimpering.  That afternoon Jeremy took her in.  I couldn’t bare the bad news I knew was coming.  I asked that somehow God would intervene. I didn’t know how in the world he would, but I asked anyway.  Jeremy came home and made the boys go to their rooms and brought me into our bedroom.  I felt tears welling up and my throat closing.  He said “They have to come out.”  I said “We cant….” He said, “Dr. Franklin said he would do it for this….” Then he handed me a sheet of paper.  The total was circled.  $342   I was so overwhelmed with joy!!!  TRIXIE LIVES!!!!!!

So Wednesday morning she is scheduled for surgery!

….and the saga continues

Friday night we got an email saying “HOA Guy” was interested in making an offer.  We haven’t heard anything else from him.  Thumbs down “Late Low ballers” countered OUR counter with 2,000 less than our counter AND they want our fridge.  Annoyed We had 4 showings Saturday and have one tonight at 5:30.  I am over it ya’ll.  That’s all I got to say about that.

P90 is going much better this week.  Jeremy and I did Kenpo X (I kept calling it Kempo…until I saw the DVD Confused smile) on Saturday morning.  I loved it!  It was so much fun!!!  I can’t wait to do it again.  I don’t think Jer feels the same…Yesterday was my second chest and back workout and I did much better this time.  My chest is still tight, my gluteus maximus is still pretty sore but over all I am feeling much better.  This morning I decided to do Plyo first thing before I ate breakfast.  Saturday I did Kenpo first thing and felt so much lighter and had more energy.  So I thought I would try PLYO on an empty tummy.  “They” say that cardio on an empty tummy burns more fat too so….that’s a plus.  It was MUCH easier today.  I didn’t peter out in the end.  I was able to complete most of the exercises, got super sweaty and burned about 100 more calories this week!  Thumbs up

Didn't puke

My friend posted this on her Facebook today and I can’t stop laughing at it!

I am so in-love with this program.  Even though I am borrowing it right now, I am planning on buying one for myself.  I think it will be a great tool to use when I am training and counseling.  When your 11 year old says, “Mommy!  Look at your arms!”  “Let me see your abs…..MAN!”, you know the program is legit.

We were so busy this weekend & I wasn’t able to get all my food in but tried my best to stick to the plan.

Friday night I made some ground chicken with homemade taco seasoning.  I served it over 2 cups of spinach and 1 1/2 corn tortilla.

photo 1

Saturday after Kenpo I made my protein shake, showered and then had to leave because of a showing, so I grabbed a protein bar.  This was DELICIOUS!!!!!  Love it.

photo 2

Clif Builders Bar

I read that these are a good substitute for the P90X performance bars so I grabbed a couple to try.  Impressed!

Saturday afternoon I took L for a B&N/Ice Cream date.  We hung out looking at books & drinking coffee (don’t freak out…decaf/fat-free/white mocha for him) like hipsters for a few hours before heading to Braum’s for the best ice cream in the world.

He got Peanut Butter Ice Cream

photo 1 (2)

I got Pineapple Almond fro-yo.  Probably the best thing ever……Winking smile

Aidan is my little workout buddy.  He hangs in there like a boss most of the time! Yesterday he was lifting this 15lb weight up over his head, making me super nervous!  He also did 40 “push-ups”.  More like 1-2-3-4-567891011123940!  Watch out Arnold!  I have a secret dream that he will be my actual workout/running buddy when he is grown up!

photo 3

Today after PLYO I made my protein shake.

photo 4

Later I had a snack of 1.5 oz. avocado, 1 cup cucumbers/carrots, 2 light cheese sticks and my daily vitamins.

I am sort of off on my eating schedule today since I didn’t eat breakfast but I am sure I will make up for it later!!!

I have to get going so I can get the house “show ready” *eyeroll*.  I should be thankful for lots of traffic, but look, I am not.  I just want the Lowballers to accept that we aren’t going accept anything less than what we countered with!

On the bright side….I had a game changing conversation with Aidan’s preschool teacher on Sunday.  It was definitely a God thing that we ran into each other and had some time to talk.  What we talked about is possibly why we haven’t accepted an offer yet.

Speaking of church….As I sat in the service a young lady and her little baby girl (~3 months?) sat a few aisles over and in front of me.  I kept looking at that sweet baby and thinking how beautiful it was to see a young woman holding her little baby.  My womb ached a little.  Then I went to volunteer in the nursery.  I held a crying baby for two hours and changed a poopie diaper….ache no more my friends, this kitchen is closed!!!!

Waiting…..

Jeremy and I went to Starbucks to wait out two showings earlier today.  This has gone on long enough folks.  Even Jeremy was irritated we had to leave the house. “What?!?  I have stuff to do today!”  Welcome to my world Green…welcome to my world.  “The Late Lowballers” are “thinking about it”.  Meanwhile one of the showings today was a second showing with “The HOA Guy”.  So lovingly called because he wanted more information about our HOA and his realtor keeps calling our realtor.  We don’t have any information other than we pay $195 a year and we have gotten two notices to fix our fence pickets when they were broken.  So….Mike called to let them know we just countered an offer then he came for second showing! I suppose that could be good.  That’s where we stand as of now.  Thumbs up

*****

I had kind of an off day yesterday.  I woke up late, ate my breakfast late, took a two hour coma nap, didn’t get all my food in (my stomach is in KNOTS) and didn’t get the Yoga X in until around 8pm because I wanted to wait for Jeremy.  He was working an extra job and wouldn’t be home til 5.  Then we had two showings from 5-6pm so we were all kinds of off schedule.

Speaking of coma naps, we are exhausted.  These workouts are taking everything out of us.  Thankfully the soreness is working its way out but the persistent pain is making me physically tired too.  It’s such an effort to get around.  Jeremy has been totally passing out every night.  P90X is not a joke friends.

I got all of my breakfast in yesterday morning.

photo 1 (2)

The same as the rest of this week.

This morning I had time to make steel-cut oats. I was only able to finish half of it, thankfully Aidan finished the rest.

photo 1

1/4 cup steel-cut oats, 1 1/2 cups water, Ideal, cinnamon and vanilla, 4 slices turkey bacon

For lunch yesterday I had 2 oz mashed avocado, 1/2 cup cucumbers, 1/2 cup carrots, and 2 light cheese sticks.  Then I had my zone bar.  Super yummy and filling lunch.

photo 2 (2)

I didn’t get another chance to eat until about 6:30 and I knew we were doing yoga in a little bit so I made my protein smoothie.

photo 3

After yoga I had my fruit bar and 1 tbsp. peanut butter.

photo 4

Yoga X was awesome.  It was 1 1/2 hours but it didn’t seem that long.  Jeremy was completely bored with the first part but liked the second part.  The first part was all Vinyasas and the second part was balance poses and “Yoga Belly X”  Once again I have A LOOOOOOOT of room for improvement.   We couldn’t stop laughing at the end.  Those who have done P90X know what I am talking about. Winking smile

TODAY’S workout was legs, back and our favorite Ab Ripper X.  It was (excuse me) pure hell.

excersisevia

It was by far, for the both of us, the hardest DVD so far.  I totally hit the wall at about the 45 min mark.  At that point I was just moving.  I sat out an entire pull up round but got back into it and finished it.  The Ab Ripper seemed easier today.

After today’s work out I had my protein shake….I needed it SO bad today!

When we were able to finally return home (after waiting for “HOA Guy” to leave) I wasn’t super hungry but knew I needed to eat.  Thumbs down

photo 2

This morning I prepped two tuna salads for Jer and I to eat for lunch.  I was glad this was ready to go.

Tomorrow is Kempo X, which I believe is like kick boxing.  Could be fun?  Maybe the boys will get into it with us!  Sweet Aidan wanted to do yoga with us so bad last night!  But it was bed time. Sunday is a rest day or we could do a stretch video.  I think he would like that!

Hopefully I will be able to pop in over the weekend with some good news!  Until then….keep  us in your thoughts and prayers!!!!

Shred-It with Weights

I got myself all ready to go for a run this morning.  It wasn’t raining anymore and running seems to be just the thing I need in my life right now.  I got all my stuff laid out, ready to begin the process of getting prepared for a cold run.  But after I got it all out, the thought of the effort it takes to get it all on, get my gadgets all set, get my key in a certain spot….I was tired just thinking about it!

photo 2 (2)

Then I took a peeksies outside and said forget that…..

photo 1

I was already dressed for a regular workout so I just put my shoes on and looked in my library of workout videos.  I found one that I had bought several months ago that was still in the wrapper!

photo 1 (2)

Awesome!  New workout!

There are 2 levels and I did level 1.  I am not sure what I think about it yet.  My legs are a little shaky but time will tell if it was a good workout for me or not.  Good Workout = DOMS.  As of right now, it’s not my favorite video.  For me, it didn’t have enough cardio so it would be a nice accompaniment to a run.  She uses a kettle bell and I don’t have one so I used one of my hand weights. It felt awkward using them in that manner.  They worked fine but it would be a more effective workout with the right equipment.

I did break a sweat though so I suppose that’s a good sign!

Since I was warmed up I was able to make that green smoothie I have been craving!

photo 3photo 2

Ok so it’s not green but I know what’s in it and it makes me feel better to call it that.

This smoothie had:

  • 1 scoop of Jillian’s vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries (blueberries, black berries, raspberries, strawberries)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • lots of baby spinach
  • 1 cup crushed ice

Cheers!

Try

This morning I got the “daily disaster” cleaned up (I know I have said this over and over but…..those boys, I don’t know WHAT they do in the morning but they destroy this house!) and then went for a little jog.  I didn’t expect to really be able to jog a great distance before having to walk but I was surprised by how much I was actually able to.  I am definitely not in the shape I used to be but, I will get there!  I ended up jogging/walking 2.5 miles in 30 min.  I used the RunKeeper application on my phone but accidentally stopped it at some point so I wasn’t able to get an accurate reading.  Thumbs down  I loved it while it was working though!  The voice comes on every 5 min and lets you know it’s been a certain number of minutes, how far you’ve gone and what your pace is.  VERY COOL!

I also had downloaded a few new tunes which is ALWAYS essential for a great workout.  I love music so much.  It evokes serious emotion in me.  I think if I had ever been given the opportunity, I would have been some sort of musician or dancer.. Growing up I always begged for dance & piano lessons.  Clearly I never got those because I can do neither….  Annoyed

Try – Pink  <— Man I am in LOVE with this one. I played it over and over and over today.  I liked it before but they played it during a part of The Biggest Loser and I heard it in a whole new way.  I know the song is mostly about a terrible relationship but I hear something different when I listen to it.  I hear the struggle with one’s hopes and dreams….especially the chorus and the part where she sings “When you’re out there doin what you’re doin, are you just getting by?”  Loves loves loves.

Be itvia

Imagine Dragons – It’s Time <—–I am not sure what this song is about but whatever it’s catchy….

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Thriftshop. ( I won’t link that one because it’s got a lot of naughty words in it…..of course I chose the clean version on Itunes….which they didn’t do a very good job of cleaning it up…but whatever its super stupid and catchy ) Winking smile

When I got back from my jog I cleaned up and ran some errands.  I left Aidan’s jacket at the church when I made a mad dash to get out of there last Sunday so I picked that up.  Then I went to the outlet mall to get some plugin refills from Yankee Candle and I also found a new jacket!  My old coat swallows me now and I have been looking for a new one that wasn’t super expensive.  I wasn’t even really looking today & I found one!!!  Isn’t that how it always happens?  Happy DAY!

Since I was pressed for time and not super hungry yet I grabbed a couple of protein bars before I left to keep in my purse for when I did get hungry. So glad I did because I ate them both pretty much right away!  One before the church and one after!   I can go from zero to hungry in 2.5 seconds.

photo 1

After the cleanse, these tasted like candy bars to me.  I was in heaven!

We had a showing from 3-4 today so after I picked up the boys from school I had to wait down the street for them to come.  The buyer showed up at 3:40 but the agent didn’t get there until 3:53! They didn’t leave until after 4.  It was a little unnerving to watch the buyer walk around my house looking in the windows and inspecting the lawn……

As we were walking in the door my friend called and my battery was dying so I plugged the phone in while I talked to her and ate an apple, some cubes of cheese and a handful of nuts.  THEN later for dinner, I made a green smoothie!

photo 2

This smoothie had:

  • 1.5 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop Jillian’s vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup mixed fruit (banana, pineapple and strawberries)
  • 1 small banana
  • 2 cups spinach
  • 2 cups ice

It made SOOOOOO much! I had to keep adding milk and ice in order to get the consistency I wanted and it just made it so voluminous!  I filled my “A cup” which is 24oz. and an additional 12 oz. glass.  I am barely able to finish the “A cup”,  I am super “filt”.  That’s how Aidan says “full”.  I don’t have the heart to correct him.

It indeed was a fantastic day!

New & Old Faves + a plea from me

Things are back to normal around here finally. I am so glad. I thrive on a routine and schedule and so do my kids. I have found it really remarkable that all last week while the boys were away, I didn’t need a nap or feel the slightest bit tired at any point. Yesterday by 2 pm, I crashed and burned. It may have had something to do with the fact that I got a solid 8-9 hours of sleep every night last week and then Sunday night I was up every hour with a small child who wouldn’t stay in his bed. Could it also have had something to do with the fact that BOTH children were up at 5 am with me? Even though I could really use a nap right now, I am so delighted to hear them playing with army guys in Luke’s room right now. I know for a fact that the break was so good for my mental and physical health. I have found myself calm and assertive instead of screaming with a headache and frazzled nerves. THANK YOU MIMI AND PAPA for taking them for an entire week so I could re-charge!

New Favorite Meal:

This was dinner last night and most likely I will have it again tonight. I am not a fan of a heavy dinner so I REALLY like having this low calorie/nutrient rich smoothie.

Healthy Smoothie:

  • 2 cups spinach

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • ~ 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 scoop EAS Lean 15 Protein Powder in Vanilla
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds

Old favorite workout:

Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred.

Over our vacation last week I decided to take an extended break from my workouts. Meaning I didn’t workout for 7 days. The break was nice. Very nice, but I was more than ready to get back in the gym Monday morning. Much to my surprise…I was not able to do what I had been able to do the week before! Imagine that. My heart rate was crazy high so I had to keep it slow and steady. I broke a sweat after just 10 min of jogging at 5.0 mph. I guess it was a good reminder of my humble beginnings. Yesterday and today I have been easing back into my old workout routine by breaking it up a little. Yesterday I jog/walked on the treadmill in the morning for 30 min and then in the afternoon I did level 2 of Shred. Today all the treadmills were taken so I had to use the elliptical machine. Thumbs down I just did 30 minutes on that and then when I got home I popped in Shred again. Aidan loves to workout with me. I have a secret prayer that we will be running buddies someday!

I wanted to share a really great post that I read on another healthy living blog that I love.

“You Can’t Out Exercise A Bad Diet”

She hit the nail on the head with this post. I couldn’t agree more with everything she said.

Now it’s time for me to get on my soapbox. I try not to give advice on here, only what I have experienced personally. Everyone is different and different things work for different people.

I see time and time again people jump head first into a fad diet (think low or no carb), excluding entire food groups. Start an intense workout regime like P90X or Insanity when they haven’t so much as walked a full mile in ten years. They expect their lives and bodies to change over night or they believe they have found a miracle! I know there are a lot of exceptions but I think 9 times out of 10 they have set themselves up for failure, defeat, gaining more weight, feeling hopeless or unworthy.

I have done the same thing. I have done it all. Adkins, South Beach, Hydroxycut, Xenedrine, Weight Watchers, starvation….. I have learned one thing. I must do everyday what I know I can do for the rest of my life. Can I live with no bread? Can I do 2-3 hours of a workout 5-6 days a week? I could, but would I want to? It isn’t sustainable. I have seen time and time again (myself included) people start out sprinting on Monday, but then peter out by Friday because they are burned out already. And rightly so!

Then there is the diet situation. You can’t out train a bad diet. You can workout all you want but if you don’t change your diet, cut waaay back on drinking (or better yet, quit all together), quit smoking, quit staying up all night….working out isn’t going to do a thing for you. DIET & Exercise. When I lost the first 30 lbs., I wasn’t working out at all. It wasn’t until I hit a plateau that I started working out. It’s been said, 80% diet 10% exercise and 10% genetics. This is the absolute truth.

So I am going to get off my tangent now and just pray that if you are serious about getting in shape and getting healthy, you will take a look at the entire picture. Look at what needs to change, what you are willing to change for a lifetime and start there. Start by just going for a walk, then a jog….start by weaning yourself off soft drinks or for crying out loud quit stopping at fast food joints, better yet, quit eating out all together. Most would be floored at the calorie bombs these places serve up. Horrific. Educate yourself on what you are putting in your body & get real & honest with yourself.

New Go-To recipe

My my my, do I have a new go-to recipe for my collection!  Actually, make that two!

Healthified Lasagna

photo 1 (2)

&

Pesto Muffins

photo 2 (2)

Wow, so so good!

photo 3

I used lean ground turkey instead of the lean ground beef that the recipe calls for and I used Bertolli Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce instead of the Muir Glen, but other than that I didn’t change a thing!

We could make it a bit healthier by using eggs whites instead of one whole egg, whole wheat noodles (I looked for them but couldn’t find any) and possibly fat-free cottage cheese in place of the ricotta.  Over all it is a really healthy recipe!

My picky eater said that it was his new favorite thing I make!  Win!

The Pesto Muffins were wonderful!  I have never had anything like them.  Picky Eater loved them too, that was until I told him the crunchy things were walnuts….he doesn’t like walnuts.  I should have told him it was candy….Annoyed

Here are the links for the recipes:

Looking forward to a week of leftovers and possibly some to put away for a rainy day!

Todays breakfast was a break from the norm.  I wanted some oatmeal, some yogurt, some peanut butter, and a smoothie.  But since I couldn’t eat all that,  I settled on a parfait of sorts.

photo 4

Chobani 2% Low-Fat Strawberry Banana Greek Yogurt, 1/4 cup homemade granola, 14 natural almonds.

Workout

Next up was Spin class!  I was sad this morning when it wasn’t my favorite instructor who opened the door…..Annoyed  I thought, oh no…. I hope she isn’t a drill sergeant….I’m not prepared for that.  She wasn’t, she was easy….but easy = me not getting a very good workout.  On the upside, she was fun and breezy so it made the hour pass quickly.

Lunch

I was still craving that smoothie!  So I whipped one up!

photo 1

Please excuse my rude finger for photo-bombing.

I was excited about my creation today because I picked up the super food KALE during my last grocery trip.  I have never had kale and was pumped to add it to my super healthy all-in-one meal.  Since I got so brave with the spinach last week I thought I would branch out a little more!  While I was getting it out and rinsing it off, I tried a little piece.  I chewed it up a little, not bad…..a little more, um eww….…..a little more and then I spit it out in the sink.  Wow, was it bitter!  I went ahead and put a large handful in my smoothie thinking everything else would drown out the kale the way it does the spinach.  Wrong.  Ornamental Kale is very strong come to find out!  I drank the smoothie anyway trying to ignore the bitter undertone & thinking of all the health benefits.  I put the remaining bunch of kale down the garbage disposal.  Note to self, Ornamental Kale is not for smoothies!

Here’s the rundown of the nasty super healthy smoothie:

  • 1 large handful of kale
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop EAS Lean 15 Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1 tbsp. chia
  • 1/2 tbsp. coconut extract.

Side note….the smoothie as fantastic BEFORE I added the kale, and it was extremely filling.

Snack

photo 2

2 Wasa crackers (light rye), 2 slices Hormel Natural Choice Deli Turkey, 1 slice (split) Sargento Reduced Fat Provolone.

For the rest of the day I will be finishing up the mountain of laundry and playing referee for two little boys who can’t seem to be within 5 feet of each other with out one of them screaming bloody murder.

I am ALSO going to prep THESE for breakfast in the morning!

Have a GREAT DAY friends!

Questions:

Have you ever had kale? What type do you prefer?  How do you use it?

Storms and Baby RayBans

I left off yesterday before I posted dinner so I‘ll start with that!

photo 1

Alexia Sweet Potato Fries, 1/2 Morningstar Black Bean Burger, Green Giant Seasoned Steamers.

I can’t remember what these were called but I think it was the Mediterranean blend with potatoes, carrots, yellow carrots, and zucchini.  Those vegetables were amazing!

The thunder storm this morning woke my little boys up at 5am.  For some reason the living room made it much less scary. How cute are they?

Breakfast Smoothie!

photo 3

The color was not as horrific as yesterday but none-the-less, a lovely shade don’t you think?

This had:

  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 tbsp. chia
  • 1 scoop EAS Lean 15 protein powder
  • 1 cup frozen peaches
  • 1 cup Dole frozen Strawberry & Bananas
  • 1 cup Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

Yum

Workout

45 min. Spin.  It was awesome again! The gym was completely empty because of the rain and it was GLORIOUS!

After the gym we went grocery shopping at Target…..they have BABY RAYBANS in the optical dept.!  If I had a million dollars I would so buy him these.

photo 4

On the way home I had one of these granola bars.  I had never seen them before but they looked delicious.  I love food marketed for kids because they are always a great portion size for me.  These are only 100 calories, perfect for a little snack and they are oh so delicious! The other flavor is berry and I am looking forward to trying those as well.

Quaker School Days Granola Bar in Amazing Apple

Ahhhhh, finally lunch, I was starving.  Today was the perfect day for a warm bowl of soup.

photo 2 (2)

I had 2 WASA light rye crackers on the side.

This may be the best canned soup I have ever had.  It was so savory and almost had a sweet taste to it that I couldn’t quite place.

Today was Luke’s last day of school so we “celebrated” (I hate that term).  I’ll say acknowledged the occasion….who am I kidding? We celebrated with Luke’s treat of choice.  He wanted a Sonic treat.  This time I showed some restraint with the least offensive treat on the menu.  The sugar coma from last time was enough to make me never want another thing from Sonic in my life.

Dinner was so, so.  I wasn’t loving the fish this time for some reason but the veggies were really good.

I finally finished Catching Fire.  I have so many questions! Where are they?  How did they steal the hovercraft?  How is Katniss not dead? Where are Peeta and the others?  The Capitol is so powerful, how in the world did Haymich and the others pull this off? WTH happened to District 12?  Where is Prim?  I can’t wait to dive into Mockingjay…..now!

Skipped Bootcamp, Baked Sweets

I always get a little excited when I am mixing a smoothie now that I have added spinach…..I can’t wait to see what horrific shade it will turn…..

Breakfast

“Shade of Grey” Smoothie

  • 1 cup frozen peaches
  • 1/2 cup mixed berries
  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop EAS Lean 15 Vanilla protein powder
  • 1 tbsp. chia

Despite the horrific shade of grey…..it was delicious!  I love when my meal represents the colors of the rainbow.  If you mix every color don’t you get black?  And isn’t grey pretty close to black? Just sayin!!!! Winking smile

I forgot Jeremy had a meeting this morning and I wouldn’t have help with the boys so getting to the  8am Bootcamp was pretty much a laughable aspiration.  We are going to go to the one on Saturday morning…….hopefully.  Once again, a lofty aspiration, but we are going to try our best!!!

While I was waiting on him to get back so we could do Bob’s workout together, I baked.

I baked some incredible muffins!  They are from the gorgeous girls at Tone-It-Up

Jane’s On-The-Go Muffins

They are a low-fat oatmeal banana chip muffin.  Their recipe calls for carob chips but I didn’t have any nor do I know where to get any.   I know carob chips have half the calories of chocolate chips, but I used mini chocolate chips instead.  These are so delicious.  They would be very good without chocolate chips, with walnuts or with both!  I calculated the nutrition value for a few different variations.

With 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips:

161 calories, 33g carbs, 3g fat, 3g fiber, 0 cholesterol, 3g protein

Without chocolate chips:

114 calories, 27g carbs, 1g fat, 3g fiber, 0 cholesterol, 2g protein

With 1/2 cup walnuts:

147 calories, 28g carbs, 4g fat, 3g fibers, 0 cholesterol, 3g protein

I started out having just half, then I had to eat the other half immediately!

Workout

BOB

This is slowly but surely no longer the most intense workout ever.  Each time I am finding myself hanging in there longer and longer.  TODAY, I was able to hold the squat position for the entire time each time.  I may not have had my thighs parallel, but I wasn’t standing there with my hands on my hips cursing Bob to hell.  I still hate the runners lunge push-ups but I do them anyway.  They are just weird and awkward for me.  What is the point of those anyway?  Maybe if I knew that, I would enjoy them, well, maybe just not hate them.

Lunch

photo 1 (2)

1 cup leftover broccoli, 1/4 cup chickpeas, 1/4 cup red kidney beans.

photo 2 (2)

Apple & 1/2 cup cantaloupe.

I ended up not eating the apple at lunch but ate it later for a snack along with some popcorn.

In my effort to add more veggies to my diet & get out of my “food rut”…..I added spinach, yes spinach to my morning smoothies for the last 3 days! 2 cups to be exact.

I have seen and heard it’s one of the best ways to get veggies in your diet, you can’t taste the spinach….yada, yada.  I just couldn’t do it.  But, I tried it and now….I LOVE IT!  I won’t make another smoothie without it!  You really can’t taste the spinach.  I swear.

I can’t remember what all I put in these.  But two had frozen peaches and either vanilla or coconut extract.  Things may get a little boring around here as far as breakfasts are concerned….but I don’t apologize.  I feel like my “Health Nut” status is official.  I need a plaque.

I didn’t do a very good job of documenting my eats Sunday or today since I mainly snacked all day both days and ate when I could.  But Saturday I did!  Saturday was a lovely day of playing catch up with all the wonderful mom and wife duties that had fallen by the wayside last week due to end of year activities and appointments.

I love his new specs!  Makes him look like a hipster!

I meant to take picture of my beautiful friend but forgot amidst all the shopping and eye rolling at people who have no regard for strollers and clearly didn’t get the memo on elevator etiquette. Winking smile

I haven’t worked out in three days….which is good, I needed a break.  An old back injury was rearing its ugly little head.  But I am back in action first thing in the morning!

I DID do tons of shopping. So I suppose that counts as something!   My little boys will be pros by the time they are old enough to accompany their ladies on shopping trips.

This is Jeremy’s long week and I feel like he has been gone for a month straight.  Tomorrow is his last day, praise the Lord….I am running on fumes….
